Багато хто називає Вінницю “містом фонтанів”, що прикрашають вулиці та парки. Проте місто славиться не лише комфортом та красою, але й активним розвитком у сферах освіти, культури та інновацій. Тут безліч талановитих людей та неймовірна архітектура. Вінниця має безліч досягнень, як і її мешканці, але з чого ж усе починалося? У цій статті на yes-vinnytsia.com.ua про історію міста.
Перша писемна згадка
Історія назви міста Вінниця — це палітра таємничих етимологій, де кожен шар розкриває свої відтінки, аналізуючи історичні джерела та лінгвістичні контексти. Перша згадка міста датується 1363 роком, коли назва звучала як Вѣничя чи Вѣница, «Західноруський літопис» вносить навіть такий варіант, як “Бениця”. Краєзнавці середини 20 століття побачили походження назви у давньоруському “вѣно”, що означає “плата за наречену”. Ця теорія опирається на документальні свідчення грамоти Гринькові Сокілецькому від Федора Коріятовича 1391 року, де фігурує “кнѧгини Андриѧнова ѧ Вѣиницьска”.
Інші дослідники висувають гідронімію, стверджуючи, що назва міста виникла від річки Віннички, притоки Бога (Південного Буга). Критики цієї версії вказують на мілкість річки, яка, ймовірно, взяла назву від міста. Найцікавіше, що і те, і інше — топонім та гідронім — можуть відображати родинно-сакральний зміст. Це звісно впливає на те, що історія Вінниці є ще більш цікавою та загадковою, ніж здається на перший погляд.
Найдавніші сліди життя на території сучасної Вінниці
Сліди перших поселенців визначено археологами на березі річки Вишенька, де крем’яні знаряддя праці пізнього палеоліту (40-10 тис. р. до н.е.) викликають захоплення та захват. У період енеоліту (IV–III тис. до н.е.) трипільці, найдавніші європейські землероби, вибрали сучасні території Вінниці, залишивши свої сліди на пагорбі Старого міста та приватних садибах вулиці Кармелюка. Це кераміка з характерними рисунками, крем’яні інструменти, рештки наземних житлових споруд.
Епоха бронзи (II тис. до н.е.) залишила свій слід в районі педагогічного училища, а ранній залізний вік (I тис. до н.е.) відзначився побудовою першого укріплення на правому березі Південного Бугу та на лівому березі Вишеньки. Найбільшими етапами становлення Вінниці ідентифікуються невеликі миси біля лікарні імені Ющенка та педагогічного училища, район Сабарівського мису, а також територія від гирла Віннички до мосту на Старе місто.
Життя Вінниці у часи татарських нападів. Вінниця – як столиця Брацлавського воєводства
Місто Вінниця розділене невидимою межею, де ріка Південний Буг хлюпоче безперестанку. Старе місто та Замостя, що розташовані на Придніпровській та Подільській височинах, сповнені життєвою енергією та неймовірною історією.
У дев’ятому столітті ці території були домівкою для племен уличів та тиверців, також для входження в Київську Русь. Спадок цих племен передавався через епохи: від Золотої Орди до Галицько-Волинського князівства. У 1362 році литовський князь Ольгерд виборов перемогу над татарською армією, включивши Поділля до Литовського князівства. Розпочавши будівництво міст-фортець, Федір та Костянтин Коріятовичі в 1362 році положили перші камені майбутнього Вінницького замку.
Подільська височина
Тоді литовський князь Вітовт нагородив князя Дмитра Корибута Вінницею, що була подарована за визначні досягнення. У 1363 році Коріятовичем була зведена дерев’яна фортеця, що стояла на пагорбі, де річка Вінничка впадає у Південний Буг. Нині на цьому місці, де раніше був замок, розташовані сучасні будинки. Маючи скромні розміри, замок представляв собою прямокутник розміром п’ятдесят на сімдесят метрів. Його вхід виходив на підвісному мосту, а стіни, що були вперто зведені з сосни та дуба, свідчили про витончену роботу тодішніх майстрів. У межах фортеці розташовувалася церква, великий колодязь, що служив джерелом води, і підземний хід, який забезпечував доступ до річки. А це на той період було неабияк важливо. Проте історія цього замку, як і багатьох інших, була тяжкою, адже відбувалася регулярна боротьба за існування фортеці. У середньовічні часи місто Вінниця переживало суцільні випробування у зв’язку із великою кількістю татарських нападів. Саме тому протягом періоду з 1400 по 1569 роки замок був атакований 30 разів – татари не тільки завдали шкоди, але й просто знищували, розграбовували та палали місто. У 1545 році, незавдовго від того, як татари вдруге спустошили Вінницю, секретар короля Сигізмунда описав замок, вказавши на його незадовільний стан.
Федір Коріятович
Не оминув схожих подій і 1558 рік, коли на острові Кемпа було споруджено нову фортецю. Це стало вирішальним моментом для розвитку та відновлення міста на правому березі Південного Бугу. Нова дерев’яна фортеця була побудована старостами Богушем Корецьким та Валантієм Калиновським. Вона стала форпостом розвитку, але її існування обірвалося під час наступного нападу, коли її спалили. Замок був відновлений, але вогонь позбавив місто документів та прав, включаючи Магдебурзького права, що було відновлене лише в 1640 році. У 1598 році Вінниця стала столицею Брацлавського воєводства, замінивши місто Брацлав. Це рішення приймалося через небезпеку, яку представляло розташування Брацлава близько до Запорізької Січі. Місто стало центром, що сприяло його економічному піднесенню. З цього часу розпочалося будівництво костелів, єзуїтів та домініканців, а також православного колегіуму. Вінниця була столицею УНР
В історії України залишилися етапи, коли Вінниця, здавалося б, зберігала суть та долю країни в розміщенні Директорії. Період 1918-1920 років відзначився трьома етапами, коли це велике місто на Поділлі ставало фактичною столицею Української Народної Республіки. З 2 лютого по 6 березня 1919 року, під натиском більшовицьких сил, влада Директорії змушена була залишити Київ та встановити свій центр у Вінниці. Саме тут переформатувалися політичні керівництва, замість Володимира Винниченка головою став Симон Петлюра, а готель “Савой” став новим державним центром.
У грудні 1918 року, місто прийняло Директорію під час підготовки до повстання проти гетьмана Павла Скоропадського. Тут важливі рішення формували майбутню долю Української Народної Республіки. Другий період відзначився переїздом Директорії з 7 травня до початку червня 1920 року, коли маршал Польщі Юзеф Пілсудський відвідав Україну. Тоді Вінниця стала свідком важливих історичних подій, що формували відносини між двома державами. Отже, фактично Вінниця тричі була столицею УНР.
